Сегодняшний праздник сорока мучеников Севастийских – это единственный большой непреходящий праздник, который всегда падает на время Великого поста, независимо от того, ранняя Пасха или поздняя. Всегда он приходится на Великий пост. И в этом есть глубокий смысл.

Святой Кодрат остался сиротой, еще будучи новорожденным, и был вскормлен облаком, спускавшимся с неба и доставлявшим ему все необходимое. Так он жил в одиночестве, в подражание святому Предтече, не имея иной заботы, кроме угождения Богу.

С чего Евангелие начинается? «Покайтесь…» (Мф.3:2). Если это слово не услышано, то все остальное — не понято. А легко ли на самом деле видеть свою греховность, признавать, что ты грешник? Нет.

Matveenko, the chairman of the Council of Federation of the Federal Assembly of Russia, during her visit to Strasbourg acquainted herself with the building project for the future Church of All Saints in the European capital.

What is the holy Church? It is a society of believers, united among themselves by a unity of confession of divinely revealed truths, by a unity of sanctification by divinely established Mysteries, and by a unity of government and guidance by God-given shepherds. The oneness of confession, sanctification, and administration constitutes the rule of this society, which is obligatory for anyone who joins it. Membership in this society is contingent upon accepting this rule and agreeing with it; remaining in this society is contingent upon fulfilling it. Let us see how the holy Church grew and how it continues to grow.

The word anathema means severance, rejection. When the Church anathematizes a teaching, it means that that teaching contains blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, and for the sake of salvation it should be rejected and removed, as poison is removed from food.
