"We were willing to turn a blind eye to the existing problems for the sake of peace and unity and have been preparing to participate in the Pan-Orthodox Council till the last moment. At the Bishops’ Council we took the decision to participate and appointed the delegation. Only after we had learned that the Bulgarian, Antiochian and Georgian Churches would not participate in the Council, and the Serbian Orthodox Church proposed to reschedule, we understood that the question of our participation must be resolved by the Synod. We have resolved the question today."

There are a number of early English saints, mostly kings and princes, who have been venerated from time immemorial as what we call passion-bearers. The medal is awarded to ordained and secular persons for achievements in external church activities; for cooperation between the church and secular authorities in international activity; for upholding consent and civil peace in society.

May we all take hope in the triumph of life over death offered to us in the resurrection of Christ, and as we mourn and pray for those whose lives were tragically cut short, let us commend each other and our whole life unto the Christ Who has overcome fear, has trampled down death, and has granted us eternal life and great mercy.
