Several parties have agreed to establish an award named in honor of the famous and beloved Elizaveta Petrovna Glinka, affectionately known as “Dr. Liza,” who gave her life to selflessly serving others, and died in a plane crash near Sochi on December 25, 2016.

The establishment of the award was agreed upon by the Mikhail Fedotov, the chairman of the Presidential Council of the Russian Federation on the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights, of which Dr. Liza was a member, Ksenia Sokolova, the current president of Dr. Liza’s “Fair Aid” Foundation, and Raisa Lukuttsova, the chairman of the board of the Russian Red Cross, reports the site of the presidential council.

The award will likely be given every year on Dr. Liza’s birthday, February 20, with a working title of “For Good Deeds and Fairness.”

“No one can replace Dr. Liza, but everyone can do at least part of what she did. Only then can we continue the mission of Elizaveta Petrovna Glinka. Those who will take this burden upon themselves in various regions of the country will be able to qualify for the award in her name,” stated Mikhail Fedotov.

Dr. Liza was aboard the Tu-154 Russian Defense Ministry plane that crashed near Sochi on December 25, 2016 on its way to Syria on a philanthropic mission. Also on board were members of the armed forces, the Red Army Choir, and nine representatives of Russian media. All aboard died in the crash.

Wendy: I would suggest that you contact your local church about this and ask them to follow the link for the site that provided this information: http://www.president-sovet.ru/presscenter/news/read/3756/

Can Orthodox parishoners send cheques to their local parish on behalf of fundraising in the memory of Dr. Glinka?

I would like to send a contribution to the fund established in Dr. Glinka's name but I live in Canada.

It is easier to send a cheque to my local Russian Orthodox Church if they could then pass it on to Dr. Liza's memorial fund.

If this is possible, would it be more practical to make the cheque payable to our local Russian Orthodox church and ask them to collect and send money on behalf of the parish to Dr. Liza's memorial fund?

Kind regards.
