Last night, on the 100th anniversary of the martyrdom of the last Royal Family of Russia, a chapel was consecrated in their honor in the city of Bender in Transitria, the self-proclaimed Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (designated as the Transnistria autonomous territorial unit with special legal status by the Republic of Moldova), reports the site of the president of the republic.

The construction of the chapel began exactly one year ago on the territory of the military-historical memorial complex of the Bender Fortress and ended on the 100th anniversary of the slaying of the Royal Martyrs.

The chapel was consecrated by Archbishop Savva of Tiraspol and Dubăsari, who then celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the chapel. The service was attended by clergy and parishioners and national leadership.

After the Divine Liturgy, President Vadim Krasnoselsky recalled that Tsar Nicholas had been to the territory of the republic four times and that, in particular, the entire Royal Family had prayed in the Bender Church of St. Alexander Nevsky on May 8, 1916.

“In three generations, they tried to annihilate our faith in God, to make us forget our history, our ancestors, and our roots. They failed. It is precisely this memory that gives us the chance at salvation,” the president reflected. About 60% of Transnitrian residents are Russians and Ukrainians.

The historic church was destroyed during soviet times, with the Chapel of the Royal Martyrs being built in its place.
