Chinese students will be taking part in the restoration of a Russian Orthodox Church as Pravoslavie.ru reports.

Chinese students from a number of universities, along with parishioners of the Chinese Patriarchal Metochion, will take part in the restoration of the Trinity Church in the city of Yakhroma, according to the Synodal Department for the Church's Relations with Society and Mass Media.

As part of the “Firebird”, project of the Russian Orthodox Church, from July 4 to 16, 2019, students will visit the Moscow provincial city of Yakhroma. The program includes participation in the restoration of the city’s Trinity Cathedral, as well as visiting a number of cultural events. On July 13, a liturgy in the Chinese language will be held at the church.

The Russian-Chinese Cultural Center "Firebird" at the Chinese Patriarchal Metochion in Moscow implements several programs for the study of Russian-Chinese culture. The center’s activities include: a Russian-Chinese language club, participation in volunteer projects, excursions in Moscow as well as cities of the Golden Ring of Russia, lectures on the history and culture of Russia, and the like.

The Chinese Patriarchal Metochion in Moscow was founded before the revolution, closed during the communist period, and revived in its current form on February 7, 2011 by order of His Holiness, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’.

A Metochion or (or Podvorye in Russian) is typically a representation church of another Patriarchate or monastery. In this case, the Chinese Metochion practically operates as a part of the Moscow Patriarchate, however it is filled with a vibrant community of various ethnicities, including Chinese Orthodox people, as well as even a couple English speakers. The address of the Metochion is: 1-Y Golutvinskiy Pereulok, 14 Moskva 119180 (119180, Москва, 1-й Голутвинский пер., д. 14), located just behind the famous Peter the Great statue on the river in Moscow.
