Archbishop Elpidophoros addresses Secretary Pompeo with concerns about Orthodox faithful in Montenegro

In a letter dated January 16, Archbishop of Elpidophoros of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America addressed U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo with concerns about the Orthodox faithful in Montenegro who are facing persecution at the hands of their government.

The Archbishop addresses the Secretary in his capacity as the Chairman of the Assembly of the Canonical Orthodox Bishops in the United States in America, expressing the hierarchsь concerns for their “brothers and sisters in Montenegro, who are suffering a violation of their religious freedom” following the recent passing of the “Law on Freedom of Religion.”

“I call on you to protect Orthodox Christians in Montenegro against any violations of their human and religious rights,” Abp. Elpidophoros writes.
