The primate of the Orthodox Church in America and the primate of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America will join forces to feed those in need in March.

His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon (OCA) and His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros (GOARCH) met at the GOARCH headquarters in New York on Monday, February 10, “in an ongoing effort to strengthen the relationship between the Archdiocese and the Orthodox Church in America,” reports the OCA press service.

The result of the meeting is that the hierarchs will come together on March 31 to serve food to those in need as part of the “Feed the Hungry” program of the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society, GOARCH’s philanthropic arm, of which Abp. Elpidophoros is the chairman.

They also discussed the possibility of concelebrating the Divine Liturgy, which they have not done since Abp. Elpidophoros was enthroned as primate of GOARCH last year.

They also “committed to blessing and encouraging the boards of Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology and St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary to work together to find ways the two seminaries might better collaborate.”

Met. Tikhon and Abp. Elpidophoros previously met at the GOARCH headquarters in August, and at the OCA headquarters in November.

Feed the Hungry” began in January 2015, when National Philoptochos President Maria Logus challenged chapters across the nation to “do more doing,” calling on all Philophtochos chapters to reach out and provide 250,000 meals to the hungry by the time of the National Philoptochos Biennial Convention in in July 2016.

The chapters rose to the occasion and reported that they had provided a staggering 750,000 meals.

Another 1,343,734 meals were provided by the time of the 2018 convention. The goal for the 2020 convention is 1,500,000 meals.

The sheer amount of venom shed by the usual vipers in the comments would kill them if they accidentally bit their own tongue. These individuals bellow are the supposed "orthodox" "brothers" we must supposedly preserve unity with.. and that at all costs? No thanks! You find the event of two Churches uniting for a noble cause, in a Christ like spirit of brotherhood to perform a Christian act as an excuse to shed your venom and show your hate. You claim the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America is "schismatic" because it belongs to the Patriarchate of Constantinople who lives rent free in your minds. If that is so, what makes the unrecognized Orthodox Church in America? It is neither Orthodox, neither canonical, neither a Church by your very own interpretation. Don't give me excuses, you know very well the OCA isn't recognized and wasn't recognized even by Moscow until recently. Speaking of Moscow, it was Moscow that severed ties with Constantinople and every Greek Church and Patriarchate that it didn't see eye to eye. Which by definition makes Moscow a schismatic Church, and all you bellow in the comments it makes you by definition schismatics. But do you see any Greeks calling the Russian Church schismatic and heretical on their blogs and websites? Have you seen any hierarchy advocate for the ban of communion with the Russian Church and call the Russians schismatic? Have you seen any Greek advocate to have you Russians and Rusophiles excommunicated? There is no need anyway, you have excommunicated yourselves and placed yourselves in schism by your very own professing tongue. All you do day in and day out is rage about the Greeks and the Ecumenical Patriarch, day in day out, throwing insults and showing the rest of the World the hate, spite and jealousy that rules your hearts as well as the barbarism that rules your minds. Your own words condemn you, do not be irritated by me pointing it out. Why would the Greeks want any unity with you? Why would they take you seriously in the first place? What do you have to offer to Orthodoxy, when you are not even behaving remotely as a Christian. You shall know them by their fruits and everyone with eyes can see your fruits. All this talk reminds me of the behavior of the Latin professing zealot Roman Catholic monks in some backward Germanic monastery in the middle of nowhere at the time of the great schism. All you do is demonize and insult, like them, those Papist filioque professing heretics of old. You are behaving exactly like them. Quit masquerading as the supposed "holier than you" "defenders of the faith" and take a look at yourselves, you sad hypocrites. You dare characterize the GOARCH and millions of Orthodox as schismatic. I am sure Jesus Christ (and the Ukrainian nationalists) are proud of you! You defile your own communion, as a Greek Orthodox to declare "unity" with you is deeply insulting. I'd rather befriend some random Saudi Islamist than befriend you. I'd sooner call a Roman Papist my brother in Christ than call any one of you bellow. As for the moderators who love to claim community standards when some Greek comes and degrades your Russian bishops and mocks your Patriarchy, where are you when the same individuals over and over degrade and insult millions of Orthodox? Where are your community standards in this case? Are you going to admit to bias and be honest about your intentions? Quit bombarding us with crocodile tears about "World Orthodoxy", "Orthodox Brotherhood" and "Church Unity". Isn't that why you advocate for a "council" or "fraternal gathering" (by the way make up your minds) in Jordan? Quit being hypocrites and practice what you preach or step down and don't preach at all.

Not a fan of the Turk's ecclesiology, but I also wouldn't be too quick jumping to conclusions from this photo op. I trust Met. Tikhon and the OCA in these matters. They have declared a clear position regarding Ukraine and the need for a Council to clean up this mess. In the meantime, maintaining a positive relationship with all parties is not necessarily a bad thing, per "Blessed are the peacemakers."

First the OCA Holy Synod refuses to reprimand its clergy when it promotes same-sex unions from the ambo, capitulating to schismatic GOARCH; and now cow-towing to schismatic GOARCH AGAIN. Seems American Orthodoxy does have its "pope": "pope" Elpidophoros! Well, not surprising, considering its ties to St. Vlad's and world-wide dialogue on changing Church Tradition and dogma? Lord have mercy!

United we stand, and divided we fall. Metropolitan Tikhon is the man with a plan, and he's taking a stand.

The OCA has had good relations with the Serbs, Antiochians, ROCOR, etc. yet all of a sudden it chooses to cooperate with the Jurisdiction which is actively sowing schism, persecution, and division within its Mother Church. Disgraceful! This is a further betrayal of the Russian Orthodox Church and Metropolitan Onuphry by the OCA. One can only wonder what is really going on behind the scenes.

As the schism deepens, it's probably not a good idea to get closer with the author of "first without equals." Lord have mercy!

The OCA works with GOARCH to feed the hungry. Does Tikhon think the OCA can't do good works on their own and have to have Constantinople to guide them? He is not stupid , he knows better. We have always known that as we get closer to the end times that a falling away from the Church will happen. I guess I didn't think it would happen in my lifetime. This whole ordeal with Constantinople is a wake up call. PRAY for our Patriarchs and ourselves to stand for the truth.

So metropolitan Tikhon bows down to the Greek Church which is under Constantinople. And is considering concelebrating the Divine Liturgy with him. Concelebrating with schismatics??? How many more of the clergy are going to cave in to Constantinople's claim of being pope of the Orthodox Church? Brothers and Sisters, we need to seriously pray for our Patriarchs to stand firm for the truth.
