Archbishop Ionofan of Tulchinsk and Bratslavsk Visits the Synodal Residence of the Primate of the Russian Church Abroad

New York, November 2, 2010

On Monday, November 1, 2010, His Eminence Archbishop Ionafan of Tulchinsk and Bratslavsk arrived in New York. Greeted at John F Kennedy Airport by Protopriest Andrei Sommer, Senior Priest of the Synodal Cathedral of Our Lady of the Sign in New York, Vladyka Ionafan proceeded to the Synodal Residence of the First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia. His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion warmly welcomed him, after which he venerated the Cathedral’s holy relics.

The following morning, Archbishop Ionafan prayed during Divine Liturgy, which is celebrated daily by the clergymen of the Cathedral. On November 3, the namesday of Metropolitan Hilarion, Archbishop Ionafan will concelebrated with the ROCOR Primate at Divine Liturgy, after which he will fly to San Francisco, CA, where he will participate in the feast-day celebrations of the Cathedral of the Mother of God “Joy of All Who Sorrow.”

It is with grief that I learned of the death of the First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, His Eminence Metropolitan Laurus. In a telephone conversation with His Eminence Archbishop Mark of Berlin and Germany, we remembered the many years of labor of the venerable archpastor and the zealous servant of the Church of Christ.
