Celebration of 100th anniversary of the construction of Cleveland cathedral slated for September 9-11

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the construction of Saint Theodosius Cathedral here.

Established in 1896, Saint Theodosius parish is the oldest Orthodox Christian parish in the state of Ohio. The cathedral temple was constructed in 1911, and remains on the National Registry of Sacred Landmarks and is listed as one of Cleveland’s Sacred Landmarks.

In commemoration of this historic event, Archpriest John Zdinak, cathedral dean, and the parish faithful are planning a weekend of liturgical and social events Friday through Sunday, September 9-11, 2011.

On Friday, September 9, Great Vespers will be celebrated at 6:00 p.m.

On Saturday, September 10, the main Centennial Hierarchical Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. His Grace, Bishop Matthias of Chicago and the Midwest will preside. Following the Liturgy, a panoramic photograph will be taken and a high tea offered in the parish hall. Great Vespers will be celebrated at 6:00 p.m.

On Sunday, September 11, the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. The Centennial Banquet will be held at Ridge Manor Banquet Center, Brookline, OH, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Tickets are available by calling 216-741-1310.
