Church of Greece giving food to about 1,5 million of indigent Greeks daily

Athens, May 2, 2013

In free dining-rooms arranged by the Church of Greece 1,5 million of indigent Greek residents receive dinners daily. Every morning long queues are forming near the dining-rooms. Churches raise funds for these dining-rooms regularly and monasteries do what they can to help them.

The Vatopedi Monastery on the Holy mountain of Athos is making a considerable contribution by monthly donations of 50 thousand euros to the Archdiocese of Athens for free dining-rooms. To date, especially for this purpose the Vatopedi Monastery has transferred 800 thousand euros in total. But for all that, most of the Monastery's accounts are remaining frozen because of the legal case concerning the ownership status of lake Vestonida, reports Sedmitza.ru with the reference to the Romphea agency.
