In China it has become fashionable to invite priests to weddings

Beijing, June 14, 2013

The wedding ceremony, one of the rites of the Christian Church, is becoming more popular in China, according to Archpriest Dionisy Pozdnyaev, rector of the Russian Orthodox Church of Sts. Peter and Paul the Apostles in Hong Kong, reports Sedmitza.ru.

"It has become a fashion to arrange something like a wedding—people do not go to the Church but they exchange rings, promise to be faithful to each other; that is an arbitrary secular order. It has become the height of fashion to invite a real, and more desirably, foreign priest to this event. I was invited twice," Father Dionisy said in an interview published last Friday by the Amurskaya Pravda newspaper.

Once Fr. Dionisy even saw an advertisement on one Catholic Church reading: "Wedding in the Church—fashionable, creative, powerful!" portraying a Chinese bride in a white dress, surrounded by birds and flowers.
