St. Nectarios of Pentapolis commemorated on the island of Aegina

On the Greek island of Aegina solemn services in honour of one of the most venerated Saints of the 20th century, Holy Hierarch Nectarios of Pentapolis (Kefalas) were celebrated, reports Agionoros.ru.

    

In the evening before the feast in the Cathedral Church of the Convent of the Holy Trinity (St. Nectarios) Vespers was served. Right after the Vespers the solemn Cross procession began. The saint’s sacred head was taken to the large Cathedral of St. Nectarios of Pentapolis, situated in the vicinity of the convent.

The next morning, Matins and Divine Liturgy were celebrated in the Cathedral. The service was headed by Metropolitan Panteleimon of Maroneia with Metropolitans Seraphim of Kythira, Ierotheos of Nevrokopion, Nectarios of Argolis and Ephraim of Aegina concelebrating.

After the Liturgy a Cross procession began, followed by an intercessory prayer service in the cathedral at the port of Aegina.

    

Thousands of local residents and pilgrims from all parts of the Orthodox world (including Russia) took part in the festive events.

The canonization of St. Nectarios of Pentapolis (Aegina) was as late as half a century ago, but now it can already be said without exaggeration that he is one of the most venerated Saints in the whole Orthodox world.

His ascetic self-sacrificing pastoral labors, his theological heritage, will always be remembered, and miracles that come through prayers to him are well-known far beyond the borders of Greece.
