Moscow, November 8, 2013

Participants of the unique sailing expedition around Australia on a replica of the old Slavic boat, "Rusich", took part in construction of the Orthodox Church of the Resurrection of Christ.

The local community of the Diocese of Australia and New Zealand of the Russian Orthodox Church outside of Russia will be in charge of this church on Tasmania, reports the press service of the Synodal Information Department.

The solemn service for laying the foundation stone of the new Church and setting up a cross on site of the Altar was performed by the Rector of this parish, Priest George Morozov.

The head of the expedition is the honorary Russian traveller Sergei Sinelnik, graduate from the Missionary department of St. Tikhon's Orthodox University.

The participants of the expedition are planning to complete building of the church by the end of November 2013, after which they will continue their journey: they intend to travel about 8000 kilometers across the Pacific ocean.
