Russian Church in Bangkok in the centre of mass disorders

Bangkok, November 27, 2013

The representation of the Russian Orthodox Church (Patriarchate of Moscow) in the kingdom of Thailand, in connection with the mass anti-government demonstrations in Bangkok and the introduction of a state of emergency in the capital of the country, expresses concern over problems for Orthodox believers attending the St. Nicolas Church, which is almost in the thick of events and in the immediate vicinity of the government buildings captured by protesters—the Ministry of External Affairs, the Ministry of Finance and a number of others, reports the representation's website.

Nevertheless, services will be celebrated according to the normal schedule.

And although the Patriarchal representation feels it is not a good idea to dramatize the situation, they do feel it best to heed the recommendations of the Russian embassy in Thailand, expressed by the embassy's press attache Alexander Mrykin: "We ask our citizens to exercise great caution, to fulfill all requirements of the forces of law and order and to avoid areas where demonstrators are gathered," said in the message.
