Port Arthur Icon of the Mother of God arrives in Lugansk

Lugansk, August 7, 2014

A copy of the Wonder-Working Port Arthur Icon of the Mother of God has arrived in Lugansk, reports Lugansk 24 TV channel.

The icon was brought to the city on August 2 and given to the Lugansk Diocese’s clergy. The “Just Russia” (“Spravedlivaya Rossia”) Russian political party, involved in collection of humanitarian aid, has assisted in delivery of the relic to Lugansk.

The Wonder-Working Port Arthur Icon of the Mother of God was painted early in the 20th century. For the past 100 years it has been famous for its visits to many troubled spots, where Orthodox Christians offered up their prayers for peace to the Holy Theotokos.

The icon was placed at the St. Vladimir’s Cathedral in Lugansk for veneration by the faithful.
