Kiev, July 28, 2015

The visit of the wonderworking icons of the Mother of God to the Kiev Caves Lavra was extended till 2 AM of July 29, reports the website of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC MP).

During the entire two days that the icons were in the Dormition Kiev Caves Lavra, there was a permanent influx of pilgrims to this most important monastery in the Ukraine. The faithful flocked to the wonderworking icons of Holy Theotokos that had been brought to Kiev for celebration of the Day of Baptism of Russia and the feast-day of the Holy Prince Vladimir.

Seven wonderworking Icons: the Zimne, Pichayiv, Akhtyrka, Kasperovskaya, Peschanskaya, Svyatogorsk and Berdyansk Icon of the Mother of God “of the Three Hands” were brought from various corners of the Ukraine, while another wonderworking Icon, “See My Humility”, was delivered from the capital’s Monastery of the Entry of the Mother of God into the Temple.

The very presence of these shrines at the celebrations indicates a special protection of the Virgin Mary and Her invisible presence at the festal services, the message reads.

It was planned that the wonderworking icons would remain on the Lavra’s territory until 6 PM of July 28. However, as the queue to the shrines stretched far beyond the Lavra and the number of pilgrims did not decrease, it was decided to prolong the time of veneration of the icons till 2 AM, July 29.

It should be noted that the influx of believers continued throughout the previous night as well. The people related that even at night they had to queue for 2-3 hours in order to venerate the icons of the Mother of God and to pray near them.
