Patriarch Neophyte of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church offered his condolences over the tragic plane crash in which hundreds of Russian citizens lost their lives in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula on Saturday.

An official letter sent by the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church reads, as follows: “On this mournful day, when the clergy and the nation prayed for the peace of the soul of Patriarch Maxim of Bulgaria at his grave in Troyan, we were deeply sorrowed to hear the tragic news about the death of 224 Russian citizens in a plane crash in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula.

We believe that those who God chooses and accepts are blessed, and that is why with our grieving beloved sister the Russian Orthodox Church we are praying for God to grant rest to the souls of the innocent victims.”
