Russians believe it unacceptable to laugh at saints and prophets

In Russia, religion leads the list of topics that should not be the subject of jokes, Levada-Center told Interfax, summing up the results of the poll held of 800 people in 137 cities and towns of the 48 Russian regionson on the eve of Laughter Day.

Responding to the question, "of whom it is impossible to joke even good-naturedly," Russians pointed to the saints of the religion they or their relatives belong to (52%), and to the prophets of other religions (40%).

Besides, 42% of Russians do not accept laughing at the official state symbols. Every fifth person believes it unacceptable to make fun of the state figures of their country, every seventh Russian (14%) - to laugh at leaders of other countries.

According to the majority of respondents, it is acceptable to laugh at friends (85%). Every second respondent (48%) welcomes jokes addressed to colleagues, every fifth (20%) - to older relatives.
