Jordanian Prime Minister Abdallah Ensour has stated that the government has decided to cancel plans to intall video cameras at the holy places of Jerusalem, western media reported on Monday.
Ensour noted that Jordan sympathizes with criticisms of the plan from the Palestinian side and therefore decided to "suspend its implementation."
Jordanian authorities suggested the plan in the autumn of 2015 in order to lower tensions between Israelis and Palestinians in relation to contested holy sites, which are revered by both Muslims and Jews.
Palestinian authorities worry that video surveillance would allow Israel to implement surveillance of young Palestinian activists.
