Crimean authorities have decided not to hold May demonstrations in the peninsula's cities as the Day of Spring and Labour coincides this year with Pascha, head of the republic Sergey Aksyonov said.

"This year May 1 coincides with Pascha. Many of you will spend the night on the eve of May 1 at Paschal night services, many of you will celebrate the Holy Resurrection of Christ with your families. Thus, authorities of the Republic of Crimea do not plan to hold May demonstrations and meetings. There won't be official celebrations," Aksyonov writes on his Facebook page.

"Citizens can decide themselves how they will celebrate the Day of Spring and Labour," the Crimean prime minister added.

Between 15,000 and 30,000 people have participated in May 1 demonstrations in the Crimena capital of Simferopol in previous years.
