On Monday, June 13, 2016, an emergency meeting of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church will take place in Moscow.

The chairman of the Department for the Interrelations of the Church with Society and Mass Media, V. R. Legoyda clarified that a meeting of the Holy Synod will take place to discuss the extraordinary situation existing after the refusal of a number of Local Orthodox Churches to take part in the work of the Pan-Orthodox Council, planned to take place on Crete, June 18-27.

I strongly urge the Holy Synod to refuse participation in the council to be held at Crete. The entire process of the pre-conciliar documents has been calculated to produce a heterodox statement by a Pan-Orthodox council. The Church of Russia would only be legitimizing these heterodox statements if it attended the council since it is the largest of the Orthodox churches. Without a critical mass of the Orthodox churches represented, no heterodox statement can receive the false cloak of approval from what would be a Robber Council. Constantinople will not approve of any changes to the pre-approved conciliar drafts and the working rules of the council contemplate that these drafts on the agenda will then necessarily be signed by the representatives of the local churches. The whole process was engineered to facilitate a false union with Rome and probably instigated by the Vatican. Please review the organizational working rules for the council and consider the gravity of the choice you are making. Thank you.
