Orthodox hierarchs on the Church situation in Ukraine

June 28, 2016

Several Orthodox hierarchs at the Council on Crete offered their words of support to Met. Onuphry and the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate.

Patriarch Theodoros II of Alexandria:

"I would like to wish my fellow Beatitude Onuphry, Metropolitan of Kiev, many years. I myself lived in Odessa for ten years and got personally acquainted with His Beatitude Onuphry and I know he is a holy man," said the Patriarch.

"Let him know that the Patriarchate of Alexandria and all of us are together with the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church under the leadership of His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry. May the Lord give him all the best, long life, and above all health!" he stressed.

Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro:

Archbishop Abel of Lublin and Kholmsk:

“Nobody should intervene in this issue, because politicians have already interfered and that caused lots of problems. When other churches get mixed up in Church matters, it’ll add to the existing problems,” he affirmed.

The Archbishop noted that “the problem of Ukraine is an internal matter of the Russian Orthodox Church."

Did someone pass these sentiments onto the Phanar? I hope so.
