Mass Baptism of 118 Souls in Rwanda

Rwanda, September 12, 2016

“All you who have been baptized into Christ, have put on Christ, Allelua”…

“Mwebwe mwese ababatijwe muri Kristo, mwambaye Kristo, Aleluya”.

Through the blessing of His Beatitude Theodoros II, the Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa; and through the prayers of Orthodox faithfuls worldwide, on 11th September 2016, 118 people have been baptized in Rwanda.

His Grace Innocentios the Spiritual Father and Bishop of Orthodox Diocese of Burundi and Rwanda is exceedingly overjoyed for thirsty souls to orthodoxy since the beginning of His mission work in 2012.

After baptism and divine liturgy, there was a traditional group “Abatarutinya Orthodox dancers” which entertained the audience.

Lovely to see - May God's blessings be upon them all! Reminds me of a talk given by Geron Nikon of Nea Skitis, Agion Oros. He stated that years ago, there were some Greeks living in central Africa. An Orthodox priest would go to central Africa twice a year to perform services etc. The Greeks eventually returned to Greece and told a Metropolitan that just before they left to return to Greece, the priest came and scores of Africans at that time asked that they be baptised. The Metropolitan asked the Greeks: ''but weren't the Africans first catechised, taught about the Orthodox Faith etc before they could be baptised?''. The Greeks responded that the Africans had had protestants missionaries and latin missionaries come to try teach and baptise them, but they refused stating that they wanted to be baptised Orthodox simply because they saw the behaviour of Orthodox Christians. A real lesson for us all. You cannot teach people faith by words, but rather by your by living your faith.
