$10,000 collected for Ukrainian orphanage by ROCOR youth

A fundraiser for the benefit of the orphanage at the Holy Ascension Monastery in Bancheny, Ukraine was held by the Synodal Department for Youth Work of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia. Head of the department Archpriest Andrei Sommer spoke about the charity work at the Synodal meeting on December 8, reports Orthodox Life with reference to patriarchia.ru.   

More than $10,000 was raised by students participating in the Russian Church school “School Piggy Bank” program in North America.

Nuns of the nearby Boyan convent labor at the Ascension Monastery orphanage, founded by monastery abbot Bp. Longin (Zhar) in 2002 on a plot of land donated by local faithful, which houses around 500 children, some of whom are disabled and afflicted with HIV.

The ROCOR Synodal Youth Choir visited the Bancheny monastery in May of this year, taking part in the liturgical services.
