The primates of the Patriarchates of Constantinople and Serbia, His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and His Holiness Patriarch Irinej of Serbia, will both be in Thessaloniki at the end of September for celebrations in honor of the 100th anniversary of the end of World War 1, reports orthodoxia.info.

Pat. Bartholomew will be in Thessaloniki over the weekend of September 29-30 at the invitation of His Eminence Metropolitan Barnabas of Neapolis and Stavroupolis.

The invitation was extended for participation in the festive events organized in the city’s military cemeteries for the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War. Pat. Irinej of Serbia will also participate in these events.

A highlight of the anniversary events will be an outdoor Divine Liturgy.

Events are held at particular cemeteries every year at the end of September with the participation of Met. Barnabas.

The Zeitenlik Allied Military Cemetery of Thessaloniki is the largest military cemetery in the country, with more than 20,000 soldiers of the Allied Powers who fought in the Macedonian Front buried there.
