Moscow, August 27, 2018
A community of Russian Orthodox Armenians came together yesterday at Moscow’s Monastery of the Conception of the Theotokos (Zachatevsky) Monastery to pray for their loved ones who are still outside the Orthodox Church.
In particular, a moleben with a canon to Hieromartyr Vladimir Ambartsumov of Moscow was celebrated before his holy icon by Hieromonk Roman (Koshelev), a monk of Optina Monastery, reports the site of the Synodal Department for Monasteries and Monasticism of the Russian Orthodox Church.
This is not the first time the members of the Russian Orthodox Armenian community have prayerfully turned to Hieromartyr Vladimir for help. The community, established with the blessing of the beloved Elder Iliy (Nozdrin), has gathered at the monastery monthly since 2017, and increasing number have been taking part in the molebens, desiring that all nations be converted to Christ in His holy Orthodox Church.
Prayers are offered to St. Vladimir for heterodox Christians as he himself was born into a Lutheran family in Saratov, in 1892, and later converted to holy Orthodoxy. He was ordained as a priest in December 1927 and was assigned to serve a parish in Moscow. He was arrested by the godless authorities in September 1937 and shot on November 5, 1937. He was buried in an unknown common grave at the Butovo firing range near Moscow.
The Armenian Apostolic Church is part of the Oriental community that has remained outside the Orthodox Church for 1,500 years due to its rejection of the Fourth Ecumenical Council.
Conception Monastery plans to continue offering lessons in Church history and the foundations of Orthodox theology in the coming academic year. Those attending the molebens have the opportunity to speak with priests and teachers of history, philosophy, and religious studies following the prayer service.
A chapel to St. Vladimir was consecrated at Conception Monastery on November 24, 2004. The holy hieromartyr is the maternal grandfather of the current abbess Mother Juliana.
