Ukrainian Archbishop Panteleimon (Romanovsky) reposes in the Lord

His Eminence Archbishop Panteleimon (Romanovsky) of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church reposed in the Lord on Thursday, August 22.

The Archbishop died at the St. Elizabeth Monastery in Kropivnitsky in central Ukraine after a long illness. He was 68 years old, reports the Information-Education Department of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

His Eminence was born on May 21, 1952 in a clergy family. He graduated from the Leningrad Theological Seminary in 1976.

He was ordained as a celibate deacon on March 2, 1980, and as a priest on April 7, 1981. He served in the Central Asian Diocese until 1987, when he was transferred to the Sumy Diocese. He was tonsured as a monk with the name Panteleimon in 1989. He served in parishes in the Kazan, Tashkent, Perm, and Sumy Dioceses. In 1990-1991, he served as the secretary of the Crimean diocesan administration and dean of the Kerch Deanery.

He was consecrated as a bishop on July 25, 1992 and appointed as bishop of Kitsman, vicar of the Chernivtsi Diocese. He served in several other dioceses until he was appointed as Bishop of Kirovograd and Alexandria on November 5, 1998, where he served for the next 13 years.

In 1999, he graduated from the Kiev Theological Seminary and in April 2001 from the Kiev Academy. In July 2009, he was elevated to the rank of archbishop.

He was granted retirement for health reasons on February 10, 2011.
