President of Georgia pardons 34 convicts for feast of Dormition

President Salome Zurabishvili of Georgia pardoned 34 convicts in connection with Wednesday’s celebration of the Great Feast of the Dormition of the Mother of God.

Among the 34 were 8 women and one minor, Angi Khutsishvili, acting head of the Presidential Administration of President, said on Tuesday, reports the official website of the President of Georgia.

“The President of Georgia has been using her right of pardon since December 17 of 2018. The pardoning process has been going smoothly and has not stopped. As of today, the President has pardoned 91 convicts,” said Khutsishvili.

Zurabishvili, Georgia’s first woman president, in office since December, issued her first pardon decree in early January, releasing three female inmates, one of whom was pregnant, one of whom has an underage child, and one of whom is ta mother of three.

The previous president, Giorgi Margvelashvii, pardoned 64 inmates in honor of Pascha last year.
