Sofia Diocese of Bulgarian Church donates food, medicine to children’s home

Sofia, December 18, 2019

Yesterday, December 17, with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Neofit of Bulgaria, the Mercy and Charity Department of the Sofia Diocese of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church made another donation to the St. John of Rila Children’s Social Welfare Home in Sofia, reports the diocesan website.

In particular, food and medicines needed to treat the children were donated.

The heartfelt greetings of Pat. Neofit were conveyed to the children and staff of the children’s home during the meeting with the director, Dr. Elena Kundurdzhieva.

Ideas for even more active support and care for the children were also discussed.

According to the report, the Charity Department of the Sofia Diocese also supported other children’s homes and hospitals in 2019. In June 2018, the Sofia Diocese donated a new state-of-the-art blood diagnosis machine to a children’s hospital. The year before, Pat. Neofit personally donated an automatic hematological analyzer with five-digit blood counts.

On Monday, December 16, His Grace Bishop Polycarp, vicar to Pat. Neofit, also visited the St. Sophia Temporary Accommodation Center in Sofia that shelters homeless children and orphans.

The children performed holiday poems for their respected guest, and Bp. Polycarp, in turn, presented the children with treats and educational materials provided by the Metropolitan Council of Sofia.

The center’s administration thanked Bp. Polycarp and those with him for their visit and care, noting that no one else would pay attention to the children during the holidays.
