Theological School in Chalkis, Turkey Expects 2011 Operational License

October 4, 2010

In 2011 the license to operate the Theological School in Chalkis is expected to be granted, according to statements from the Vice President of the Turkish government of Arints.

“What remains now is the decision from the government of our neighboring country of Turkey”, declared Ecclesiastical Historical and Legal Ioannis Sidiras on ERT radio station.

He also discussed two events that took place recently. The first is the art exhibition and the second is a concert of Euanthia Rempoutsika. These events paved the way for the use of school space for all citizens of the region.

The change of perception from the Turkish government was due to democratic steps that Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan is taking to ensure the rights of the Orthodox minority living in the country.  Additionally, the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew warned the Turkish government that he will appeal to the European Court of Human Rights; the School has been operating for the past 39 years.

In conclusion Sidiras stated that Orthodox students from all over the world will have the opportunity to learn the theological science; through the genuine Phanariotes spirit of the School of Chalkis.
