The two-year anniversary the election of His Holiness Patriarch Irinej by the Holy Assembly of Bishops to the Serbian Patriarchal throne of Saint Sava was celebrated on Sunday, January 22 in the Cathedral church in Belgrade, where Patriarch Irinej served the Divine Liturgy, reports the official site of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

The Serbian Patriarchate was addressed after the service by Archpriest Petar Lukic, rector of the Cathedral, who presented him with a patriarchal staff as a gift  from the clergy, choir and parishioners of the Cathedral.

Patriarch Irinej thanked father Petar Lukic and reminded of circumstances which brought him, by the providence of God, on the throne of the Serbian Church. Then he gave a sermon in which he called his predecessors to mind, with special mention of Patriarch Pavle of blessed memory.
