The Serbian New Year was celebrated last night across the country with concerts and firework displays.

At midnight, the traditional firework display at Belgrade’s St. Sava plateau outside the St. Sava Church marked the arrival of the New Year according to the Julian calendar.

The display was attended by many people after a thanksgiving service for last year and a supplicatory prayer for a successful and blessed 2016 were held in the temple.

Thousands of Novi Sad residents and their guests welcomed the Orthodox New Year as they watched a performance by Goran Bregovic and a magnificent firework display on the Square of Freedom.
