Former Bulgarian Metropolitan of Western and Central Europe Simeon passed away on Saturday, April 16, in Phoenix, Arizona, the press centre of the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church has announced.
The bishop’s body will be taken to Bulgaria, where last respects will be paid to him.
In line with his wishes, he will be buried in Rila Monastery.
The former Metropolitan of Western and Central Europe was born on September 17, 1926 in the coastal city of Varna.
The Holy Synod dismissed him from the high-ranking post he held on June 11, 2013 at his request due to his advanced age and frail health.
Bishop Antoniy was elected Metropolitan of Western and Central Europe on October 27, 2013.
