A copy of Ukraine’s oldest printed version of the book of the Acts and Epistles of the Apostles, published in 1574 by Ivan Fedorov in Lviv, was stolen from the collections of the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine.

“Management will not comment right now in interest of the investigation,” reported the library’s press service to Interfax.

The Lviv Apostol had a print run of 1000-1200 copies; presently there are 120 known surviving copies. The Vernadsky National Library preserves five copies, although all are incomplete. Additionally, copies of the book are to be found in the archives of Lviv, Kharkiv, and Dnipropetrovsk, as well as in other countries including Russia, Belarus, Poland, Bulgaria, and America.

The book is published in large format, originally of 278 pages, 264 of which are numbered.
