Churches and monasteries of Russian Far East raised about half million rubles to help Japan

Vladivostok, April 8, 2011

Churches and monasteries of the Primorsky Region on the Russian Far East collected about 470,000 rubles (approximately, USD 17,000) to support the Orthodox communities of Japan which suffering from the acts of elements, the press service of the Vladivostok Diocese reports.

"I would like to note that mercy is a characteristic feature of the citizens of the Primorsky Region. In summer of 2010 we raised funds to help the victims of wild fires. At that time the citizens donated no less amount," head of the diocesan department for charity and social service Archpriest Alexander Talko said.

He noted that last year the Church had collected funds for Russians. "Today, the citizens of the Primorsky Region demonstrated that they are ready to support their brothers in faith in other countries as well," Father Alexander said.
