On July 10, the Georgian Ministry of justice introduced the anti-discrimination bill developed by it to the representatives of ethnic and religious minorities, reports Gruzia Online.

The work on the bill for eradication of discrimination of all kinds with the purpose of more effective realization of equality of rights guaranteed by the constitution started in January 2013.

At the presentation of the bill, it was stated that at the present time, the anti-discrimination regulations in the Georgian legislation are dispersed over various subject normative acts, and that limits information access to them; on the other hand, these regulations do not have proper mechanisms for implementation.

The new bill provides for protection of all Georgian citizens from discrimination irrespective of their religion, race, color of skin, national identity, gender, age, citizenship, background, and so on.

Of particular interest at the meeting was the idea of "an equal rights inspector" and his duties. According to the bill, the duties of an equal rights inspector include consideration of received applications and complaints, development of legislative proposals, monitoring of the situation from the point of view of discrimination, increase of self-awareness in society and so on. An equal rights inspector will be elected by the parliament.

At the end of the presentation, the Ministry of Justice representatives heard out and took into account the comments and proposals on the bill from the national and religious minorities.
