Умер протодиакон Николай Попович. Я хорошо знал его с детства, хотя позже наши пути разошлись по разным причинам. Он запомнился мне человеком горячим, искренним, очень живым.

We are also watchful when we take care that we don’t neglect our own spiritual lives and lose our focus. The Lord Jesus says that if we are not ready for His coming, it will be “like a thief in the night.” We can meet our king at any moment. The apostle asks us to be watchful so that the moment does not catch us off guard.

The patristic consensus, as on a whole the dogmatic authority of Church Tradition, places an insurmountable barrier on the path of those who would like to introduce some new teaching of their own into Orthodoxy. Even were you to convince the majority of modern men about it, it wouldn’t work out with the ancient saints who have already died and left their confession of faith without your innovation. In this regard, probably, it’s not so surprising that we have recently begun to hear voices attacking the principle of consensus patrum and the authority of the Patristic Tradition as a whole. Those Orthodox Christians who consider it important to conform their faith and life with the teachings of the holy fathers are branded as “fundamentalists,” and their convictions are subjected to criticism and ridicule.
