В богослужебном пении самое главное – кристальная ясность и присутствие молитвенного духа. И эти песнопения должны звучать не только в храмах, но и в духовных концертах. Часто духовный концерт воспринимается как некое благочестиво-развлекательное мероприятие. Но нужно понимать: если слова молитвы звучат не в церкви, они не теряют своей силы и духа, не снимают той высокой ответственности, которая лежит на регенте и певчих.

На вопрос Ваш, в чем состоит счастливая жизнь: в блеске ли, славе и богатстве или в тихой, мирной семейной жизни, — скажу, что я согласен с последним, да еще прибавлю: жизнь, проходимая с неукоризненной совестью и со смирением, доставляет мир, спокойствие и истинное счастье.

Я Тебе честно скажу, без Тебя очень плохо. Есть хлеб на столе, есть друг, пришедший в гости, есть свежесваренное пиво. Трещит в камине сухое полено, младшая дочка играет на полу и сыновья рисуют акварелью парусные корабли. Идет за окнами снег, и, ёлки зеленые, чего еще может не хватать человеку для счастья?! Не надо говорить, что мы соберём много денег. Пока мы их соберём, всё умрёт в глубинке. Ноль, умноженный на любой миллиард, даёт ноль. Мы сегодня импортируем много продовольствия, и при этом умирают 20 тыс. русских деревень. И в это время проводить мировые шоу?! Лучший шоумен мира – сомнительная репутация для страны.

По окончании службы мальчик прочитал для батюшки благодарственные молитвы и вышел из храма. Но не успел он сделать и двадцати шагов, как в спину ему ударил снежок. Сережа рассерженно повернулся. У выхода из церкви стояла та девочка с русыми косичками и лепила второй снежок. — Читать молитвы-то ты не умеешь,— улыбаясь, сказала она.— Двоечник!

His hapless murderer was but a tool in the hands of "the mystery of iniquity," which doth already work (2 Thess. 2:7). Stolypin, however, will be ever remembered as a dedicated public servant, with whom not all of his colleagues agreed, but who the people loved. He embodied that nobility of soul of which, perhaps, the present world is not worthy.

On December 21, 2010, at Beijing Foreign Studies University (Beiwai), the work by the famous Russian sinologist V. G. Datsyshen, History of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in China, published by the parish of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul in Hong Kong, was solemnly presented to the university.

"Well, you need to decide what's more important to you — going to your church, or honing the skills of logic, reasoning and argumentation that will give you a competitive edge in the real world." Ten years later, I don't regret forfeiting that "competitive edge," but it was something I agonized over at the time. As a parent, I'm preparing to confront this same, tough decision on behalf of my children.

On the Sunday after Theophany, January 9, 2011 (new style), faithful from six Harrisburg area parishes gathered at City Park for the third year to celebrate the Great Blessing of Waters.

Many years for His Holiness the Patriarch! Then we went to another room to meet with the Patriarch. We gave the Primate of our Church a large leather-bound album with photographs showing some moments from our pilgrimages and the work our youth has done in renovating holy sites in Russia and abroad. We saw right away that he was genuinely interested in the photographs and the work of our youth. As we approached to receive the Patriarch’s blessing, each of us received a Christmas present and an icon of the Nativity of Christ. We took a photograph together with His Holiness for posterity.
